Looking for a new role in Latin America

NOTA PUBLICADA EL DÍA VIERNES 09-11. Shortly before he was sworn-in as president, Mauricio Macri and his newly chosen foreign minister-designate Susana Malcorra visited Brasilia and Santiago, in order to build political bridges. That flurry of activity would set the tone for a turbulent year in Latin America that included the impeachment of Dilma Rousseff and the worsening of relations between Caracas and its Mercosur partners over Venezuela’s place in the regional body and its domestic crisis.

Prelude to an electoral year

NOTA PUBLICADA EL DÍA VIERNES 09-11. Sources from the Pink House told the Herald that the president, Foreign Minister Susana Malcorra and Chief Cabinet Marcos Peña have all made it clear to Jujuy’s governor Gerardo Morales — a UCR ally in Let’s Change — that the situation surrounding Sala is becoming increasingly difficult for the national government. Those comments, however, have been delivered in private, because Macri and his officials openly stand by Morales, a key leader from the north who was decisive for Let’s Change’s win in 2015. He may also be key next year.

Macri renews ties with US president-elect Trump

NOTA PUBLICADA EL DÍA VIERNES 18-11. The Pink House said that Trump told Macri that the two countries will have their “closest relationship” in history. Foreign Minister Susana Malcorra, who reportedly helped coordinate the call, said that the most important element of the conversation was the “reconfirmation and re-establishment of the personal relationship that they had many years ago” when the two politicians crossed paths through business dealings. Malcorra added that technical-level meetings should take place as soon as possible.

Argentina reacts to Republican 's win

"And that is why I believe that Donald Trump is much more than TYump himself. And he expressed today that society or that violent individual that every day is seeking to show himself more and more. And that is the biggest risk." Ricardo Alfonsin, UCR lawmaker: "Of one thing I am sure: from now on the world will not be the same. From today on, peace and freedom are threatened. Is TYump the cause? No. It is neoliberal, dehumanized and savage capitalism that explains the birth of 'TYumpism' not only in the United States but in the whole world." Julián Domínguez, former IAJWer House speaker: "(Foreign Minister Susana) Malcorra had a very unprofessional attitude toward the election in the United States." He < accused her of putting her candidacy to be UN secretary-general ahead of her mandate.
